While strolling along the Varanasi riverfront\, I encountered her transporting the candles to the Ganges River. This offering to Ganga\, the river god\, is a long-held tradition in this ancient culture. The illumination of the girl’s face provided a warm contrast to the cool\, blue twilight. Once afloat\, the cluster of candles disappeared into the gathering darkness.\n \n \n \n \n \n Madagascar’s climate suits the baobab tree\, which stores water in order to survive the long\, dry season that dominates the year. Baobab Alley\, Madagascar\n \n \n \n \n \n Day of the Dead is celebrated very intensely in the towns and villages around Lake Pátzcuaro.
