SUMMARY:Wild Lives at MUNDOLOGIA Festival in Freiburg\, Germany
DESCRIPTION:Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) and Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus)\, Katavi National Park\, Tanzania\n \n \n \n \n \n Lake Natron region\, Tanzania\, Greater flamingos\n\nGreater flamingos rely on the salt lakes of the Rift Valley as one of their few consistent breeding grounds in East Africa. Lake Natron is home to organisms that manage to thrive in the high salinity and give the water rich and varied hues.\n \n \n \n \n \n Red foxes (Vulpes vulpes)\, San Juan Island National Historical Park\, Washington \, wildv2\n \n \n \n \n \n Japanese macaques huddle for warmth\, Nagano\, Honshu Island\, Japan\n \n \n \n \n \n Mexico\, Quintana Roo\, Yucatan Peninsula\, Bancho Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve\, American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)\n\nIUCN redlist status Vulnerable\n \n \n \n \n \n Madagascar \, ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta)\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bengal tiger and two second year cubs\, Bandhavgarh National Park\, India\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Polar bear (Ursus maritimus)\, Wapusk National Park\, Manitoba\, Canada\n \n \n \n \n \n Chile\, Patagonia\, guanaco (Lama guanicoe)\n \n \n \n \n \n Two mountain goats stand on a small promontory overlooking a river in the Canadian Rockies. The sidelighting gives volume to the mountains in the distance and bathes the goats in very nice\, dramatic light. Jasper National Park\, Alberta\, Canada.\n \n \n \n \n \n Canada\, British Columbia\, Great Bear Rainforest\, Kermode bear\, sometimes called the spirit bear (Ursus americanus kermodei)\, a subspecies of the American black bear\n \n \n \n \n \n USA\, California\, Point Reyes National Seashore\, bobcat (Lynx rufus) \, wildv2\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Botswana\, Mashatu Game Reserve\, Burchell’s zebra (Equus quagga burchellii)\n \n \n \n \n \n USA\, Alaska\, Katmai National Park\, Sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka)\n \n \n \n \n \n USA\, Alaska\, Katmai National Park\, brown bear (Ursus arctos) fishes for sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka)\n \n \n \n \n \n Leopard (Panthera pardus) in thorn tree (Vachellia sp.)\, Chobe National Park\, Ngamiland\, Botswana\n\nThe gnarled branches of an ancient thorn tree play host to a resting leopard.\n\nCanon EOS 5D\, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens\, f/5.6 for 1/500 second\, ISO 400\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Koala and baby (Phascolarctos cineraeus)\nKangaroo Island\, South Australia\nOn Australia’s Kangaroo Island\, 14 meters above the ground\, a koala cradles its baby on a limb of a giant eucalyptus tree. To get this shot and its unusual perspective\, I climbed the tree\, keeping myself concealed behind the trunk. The koalas were sleeping so soundly on this chilly morning that I was able to approach to within half a meter. I selected a 17-35mm wide-angle lens for two reasons. First\, it is easy to hand hold while balancing on a branch. Second\, I wanted to capture a “sense of place” only a wide-angle lens can.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n USA\, Wyoming\, Yellowstone National Park\, gray wolves (Canis lupus)\n \n \n\nArt Wolfe is thrilled to return to Germany in February of 2025 for the 21st annual MUNDOLOGIA Festival. Art will present photos and stories from his latest book\, “Wild Lives”\, a project highlighting the beauty\, ferocity\, and revival of wildlife species amidst the impact of human beings. \nWild Lives is a celebration of the extraordinary diversity of species that inhabit the planet. Some are common\, some rare\, and many are conservation success stories\, species that have been brought back from the edge of extinction. Over his forty-year career\, Art Wolfe has photographed many species that were once on endangered species lists\, but are now flourishing (such as the bald eagle and humpback whale). These recoveries are an uplifting testament to the resilience of life when it is given a chance. \n“MUNDOLOGIA” is the Spanish word for knowledge of the world and in this sense we do not just want to take a superficial look at the world\, but rather show a coherent picture of the earth as a living space by illuminating different cultures and countries\, but also the lives of individual people and their unique ones stories are considered. \nVisit the MUNDOLOGIA website for more information on this event – see you there! \nShare:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window)\n Tumblr\n More\n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit
