To get this shot and its unusual perspective\, I climbed the tree\, keeping myself concealed behind the trunk. The koalas were sleeping so soundly on this chilly morning that I was able to approach to within half a meter.  I selected a 17-35mm wide-angle lens for two reasons. First\, it is easy to hand hold while balancing on a branch. Second\, I wanted to capture a “sense of place” only a wide-angle lens can.\n				\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Two mountain goats stand on a small promontory overlooking a river in the Canadian Rockies. The sidelighting gives volume to the mountains in the distance and bathes the goats in very nice\, dramatic light. Jasper National Park\, Alberta\, Canada.\n				\n			\n				\n			\n				\n				Canada\, British Columbia\, Great Bear Rainforest\, Kermode bear\, sometimes called the spirit bear (Ursus americanus kermodei)\, a subspecies of the American black bear\n				\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\nWild Lives is a celebration of the extraordinary diversity of species that inhabit the planet.
