You will have opportunities to view and photograph bears safely and will be creating dynamic images that are different than anything you have seen before. This is a Katmai experience like no other due to the exclusivity of the location and the expert guidance. You can be one of only 10 people to learn the nuances of nature photography taught in a truly wild atmosphere by a well-versed set of instructors.

Transportation and Accommodation

• All meals during the workshop, lodging, and transportation to and from the lodge is included. You will be responsible for your flight to and from Anchorage Alaska and for your hotel in Anchorage. You are requested to arrive by Aug 7th so that the entire group can convene the morning of Aug 8th for departure.
• We will provide hotel information for where the group will be staying. You will need to reach out to the hotel directly to secure your room reservation. You are not required to stay at the suggested lodge, as there are other options nearby.

Activity Level

The activity level for this workshop is moderate with proposed field outings that may involve up to 4 miles of hiking over uneven ground to the photographic location. However there are alternate options for those that may not want to hike as much. If there is any question regarding your ability to participate please call our office.

Itinerary

Shooting schedules have the ability to be altered to effectively cater to the photographic desires of the group, as well as to adapt to changeable weather conditions.

Day 1 Aug 7th

• Meet and greet with the rest of the participants 6pm no host dinner at restaurant in Anchorage. Everyone can introduce themselves, and prepare for the departure the following day.

Day 2 Aug 8th

• Approximately 8:00am -Depart Anchorage for Katmai lodge
• Cabin assignments, waders and boots provided to each participant for trip, and settling in to lodge
• Discussion of proper procedures around bears and the float plane
• The first field outing will be to see the bears fishing at Brooks Falls. This location is a great way for the group to see the bears fishing from platforms. It gives them an opportunity to familiarize themselves with bear activity and to practice with different camera settings.

Day 3 Aug 9th

• Breakfast at lodge, and lunches distributed for field
• Full day in the field with Art and Gavriel
• This day there will be some short hikes, getting the group into some wonderful viewing opportunities with bears, but this will not be a long hiking day. This way the group can get used to the terrain and prepare for the following days.
• Flight back to lodge
• Download images from the day. Dinner at lodge

Day 4 Aug 10th

• Breakfast at lodge, and lunches distributed for field
• Full day in the field with Art and Gavriel
• This day there will be some slightly longer hikes as the group knows the terrain a bit better and Art has more opportunities to spot where the most activity is happening.
• Flight back to lodge
• Download images from the day. Dinner at lodge

Day 5 Aug 11th

• Breakfast at lodge, and lunches distributed for field
• Full day in the field with Art and Gavriel
• This day might involve the most amount of hiking as everyone is acclimated to the terrain and Art has a good idea where to find mothers and cubs and bears fishing. (Anyone that does not want to do a long hike can be assigned a guide from the lodge and can hike as little or as much as they like.)
• Flight back to lodge
• Download images from the day. Dinner at lodge

Day 6 Aug 12th

• Breakfast at lodge, and lunches distributed for field
• Full day in the field with Art and Gavriel
• This day will involve less hiking but will still provide fantastic bear viewing opportunities.
• Flight back to lodge
• Download images from the day. Dinner at lodge
• Once the group returns to the lodge Art will provide a slideshow and if time permits a critique of the participants images.

Day 7 Aug 13th

• Morning flight back to Anchorage
• Arrive in Anchorage at approximately 10:30am. **Please check with Libby Pfeiffer before making your flight arrangements to confirm the arrival time back in Anchorage.**
